Abstract

The aim of this work was to describe the existing lexical similarities between English and Spanish in texts belonging to a genre of the chemical sciences area. The description was performed from the intercomprehensive perspective, for the teaching of reading comprehension in English to Spanish speaking university students. The Method of the Seven Sieves was applied to a manual written in English. The second sieve was confirmed to show a vast presence of panRomanic lexical items in English. This description proves to be useful in the design of teaching material for the teaching of reading comprehension in a foreign language as it addresses the needs of students with a basic level of this language.
