Abstract

This article analyzes a group of errors in the learning of Maya (Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico), obtained in a school environment. We propose a classification based on their linguistic characteristics, the mode of production (orality, hearing, and writing), their frequency and their social perception. A comparison is also proposed between the level of familiarity the student has with the language; some of the individuals has the language as heritage system (Polinsky and Kagan, 2007), in differentiated stages, both outside and within the territory in which it is spoken. We found a hierarchical interaction between levels, that if it is not addressed, the error would not be productive. By another hand, these types of studies (focusing on an indigenous language) are scarce and important for the contexts in which the government implements measures that contribute to the maintenance and strengthening of languages in a condition of minority.
