Abstract

This article analyzes the evolution in the production of plural agreement in four italian learners of Spanish L2, a longitudinal case study, using the dynamical systems approach. Two time series for each student were created, tagging production of agreement with: no error, gender error, error due to no insertion of epenthetic -e- (“-es”), plural error and mixed error. Then these series were treated with quantitative nonlinear techniques involving entropies and recurrence analysis. The main goal consisted in finding transitions periods in error dynamics and identifying sessions in which learning was promoted.

Pablo Ezequiel Marafioti, National University of Cordoba

He has a degree in Literature (linguistics orientation) from the University of Buenos Aires. He specialized in theoretical and applied linguistics at the University of Pavia (Italy). He also has several postgraduate degrees in statistics. He worked as an ELE teacher in Milan for more than ten years, both in the university and in the private sector (Instituto Cervantes). He was also a DELE examiner. He is currently finishing his doctorate at the National University of Córdoba (Argentina). In his thesis (currently being revised) he applies statistical methods and complex systems to analyze the plural concordance errors in four Italian ELE students.
