Abstract

Different factors need to converge in successful language learning in adults and young adults. This study set off to explore motivation, learning strategies, and spent time as factors that contribute to successful language learning. The study was conducted with 191 adult, successful, English language users and explored the influence that motivation, learning strategies, and spent time have in English learning. The study followed a quantitative methodology, and a three-subset questionnaire was developed to collect data. Results indicated that the average number of years to learn a language successfully is 9.3. Findings indicated a correlation between successful language learning and intrinsic motivation, learning strategies to improve, and spent time in activities out of the classroom.
