Abstract

This article presents the results of a research carried out in the Island of Gran Canaria, Spain. Its purpose was to analyse the syntactic maturity in forth grade and second high school students. In particular the aims of this research were calculating the rate of the syntactic complexity in students involved in the educational system in Canary Islands and establishing the possible connections in these measurements regarding the gender and the age.

From a methodological perspective, the analysis has been supported on a quantitative method, based on descriptive statistics.

The results show the relationship between the age and the syntactic maturity, and it show the lack of significant connections between the gender and the syntactic ability too.
