"La médica" or "la médico"? A sociolinguistic approach to the choice of gender (1995)

Abstract

As is well known, in Spanish, the basic alternation of gender is established by the presence of the morpheme -o- for the masculine and -a- for the feminine. However, this correspondence is not always maintained, which causes some  problems in the treatment of gender.
