Abstract

This paper delas with vocabulary strategies aimed at lexical learning and at the development of succesful communication episodes. Both vocabular learning strategies and communication strategies contribute to developing lexical and communicative competence, and thus, allow the learner engage in successful communication. Communication strategies have a compensatory role as well to cover learners’ lexical gaps. L2 learners resort to several sub-types of compensatory strategies based either on L1 or L2 resources to compensate and make do for their lack of lexical knowledge
