Abstract

This article focuses on the innovation project “Multimodal resources and literacy” (UV-SFPIE_GER18-952026) carried out at the Faculty of Education of the University of Valencia during the academic years 2017-18 and 2018-19. In line with the challenges of the 21st C. digital society and based on the approach of the pedagogy of multiliteracies for the development of knowledge, it proposes multimodality, and in particular, picturebooks, first, as a key literacy and aesthetic resource for the training of pre-service teachers of EFL and, second, as an interdisciplinary platform for meaning making. The results of the qualitative research conducted throughout a series of different case studies and the curricular proposals implemented in the Primary Education classrooms  allow us to confirm the validity of the hypothesis.
