Abstract

The editors present the thematic section of issue 30 of the Nebrija Journal on the current situation of the acquisition, teaching and learning of Spanish as a heritage language in Europe.

Author Biographies

Kris Buyse, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

He is associate professor at the KU Leuven Faculty of Arts (Applied Language Studies, Teacher Training and Leuven Language Institute). He teaches Spanish proficiency (writing, Economical Spanish, Medical Spanish) and Didactics of Spanish as a Foreign Language. He is responsible for the Spanish Teacher training program. He is also visiting professor at the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija (Madrid) and at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED, Madrid). He has published on the corpus based investigation of translation, lexicography, contrastive linguistics, LSP, CALL and Spanish as a foreign language (especially vocabulary acquisition, writing, pronunciation and assessment). He has led several projects on educational development on vocabulary learning, writing and language teaching and assessment. 

Eva González Melón, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

She 

holds a Ph. D in Spanish Linguistics from the Universidad de León. She works as a Senior teaching fellow in the department of Applied Linguistics at the KU Leuven and in the Master of Education of Spanish (EMELE) of this same university. Her teaching experience of Spanish as a Foreign Language (SFL) has widely covered several educational levels: from secondary schools and adult education, to higher education. It has mainly consisted of the teaching of oral and written skills, Spanish for Specific Purposes, as well as preparing and conducting seminars about didactics on SFLT. Besides, she is part of the teaching staff of Intercultural Pragmatics in EIDELE. Her research work has focused on Conversation and Discourse Analysis and has shifted to the study of Pragmatics in Spanish Foreign Language Teaching.

Marta Gallego García

PhD student in Applied Linguistics at Nebrija University and at KU Leuven (Belgium) and member of the LAELE research group (Linguistics applied to the teaching of foreign languages). Her work is part of the EMILIA project (Emotion, memory, linguistic identity and emotional acculturation: its influence on learning Spanish as a language of migration) and the IN.MIGRA3-CM project (The migrant population in the Community of Madrid: linguistic, communicative, cultural and social factors of the integration process and linguistic intervention resources). Her research delves into languages ​​of migration, languages ​​of origin and languages ​​of inheritance in relation to emotions and cultures; specifically, she studies the phenomena of emotional acculturation and analyzes the relationship of these processes with the maintenance of Spanish by migrants and heritage speakers in Belgium. Other research lines of interest are pragmatics and identity in migratory processes, as well as the didactic application of research results. She worked in Brazil, China and Spain as a Spanish teacher and was granted with a pre-doctoral contract at Nebrija University, where she teaches in the Masters in Didactics of Spanish as a foreign language.
